The 1st half of this season Bolat was the number 1, same as the full season before.

Playing very good matches on a consistent level. But since the beginning of February Davy Roef is playing. What happened? His contract ends this summer, therefore he wanted to sign a new contract in the wintertransfer window or move elsewhere. Gent doesn't renew contracts in January, only starting from February on. In January there were a lot of transfer rumours from Turkish teams (in Turkey there is a limit on foreigners, so quiet interesting player for Turkish teams). The last day of the Belgian transfer window, arrived real offers from Fenerbahce and Adana Demirspor, but Gent refused, cause they wanted to keep their 1st goalkeeper for the rest of the season. After transferwindow closed in Belgium (transferwindow in Turkey closed 1 week later then the Belgian one), Fenerbahce kept sending offers to sign him and give him a 2,5 year contract. Bolat pushed the Gent board to let him go, but they didn't want to let him

go. On the day before the match in that weekend he informed the Gent board that he was ill and couldn't play that weekend (other way of trying to push his move to the Turkish team), Gent called him in with their own doctor and appears he was not ill. Anyway, that weekend Roef got his chance cause Bolat was 'ill'. Transferwindow closed in Turkey and he didn't move.

When the manager Van Haezebrouck found out that Bolat was playing it like that and because Roef performed well that match, he communicated that for now Roef will be the first goalkeeper.

He stated last month though that if Roef doesn't keep on performing he would think on putting Bolat again (they still have a lot of matches this season, competition, cup and conference league). But for now i have to say that Roef is playing very well, so dont think that will happen very soon. Although if he makes one big mistake, you dont know what might happen.

For next season it might seem logical that Bolat leaves the club, and ends up in Turkey somewhere. For Roef it all depends on the rest of the season. In case he keeps on performing well they might even see him as their first goalkeeper next year. But for sure they will sign a new goalkeeper to give competition to Roef or just as their new 1st goalkeeper. Only rumour till now is Berke Ozer from Fenerbahce, who gained experience last year in Belgium, playing for 2nd division team Westerlo. Ozer is also being linked with Anderlecht. You can read it in our blogpost about Anderlecht.

Last summer we clearly agreed that Davy would opt for the financial side of things this season. Be careful, I don't want to come across as arrogant. After this season we would focus on the sporting side. If he had to drop down to the midfield or even second division, so be it. -Roef's father

About Fortin there is not that much info to share, but it might seem too early to see him as their 2nd goalkeeper.
